China's Iron and Steel Association: adverse impact of US tariffs

14 Feb 2025 14:34 reported by Alex Tsai

A A A
China's Iron and Steel Association stated that the US imposition of a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum products is essentially an act of trade protectionism and is not conducive to the development of the global steel industry chain.

The association also noted that China's current steel exports to the US remain relatively small. In 2024, China exported approximately 890,600 tons of steel to the US, accounting for only 0.8% of the country's total steel exports.

In the short term, the impact on China's steel exports is limited. However, in the long run, this move by the US may encourage other countries to adopt similar measures, ultimately reducing the competitiveness of China's steel exports.
