The Federal Association of Steel Recycling and Waste Management Companies (BDSV) and the Association of German Metal Traders and Recyclers (VDM), representing German metal recyclers, have published a position paper highlighting key issues for the incoming federal government.

They emphasized the recycling sector’s vital role in resource conservation, climate protection, and industrial competitiveness. The paper called for a more inclusive approach to policy, considering the entire supply chain, and better recognition of certified waste management companies. It also stressed the importance of free trade in secondary raw materials and opposed trade restrictions.

Additionally, the associations urged reducing electricity costs for the steel industry, speeding up renewable energy development, and streamlining permitting processes. They also advocated for improved rail logistics for scrap transportation.

These steps are crucial for ensuring the sector's growth and Germany’s competitiveness in global markets.
