Rana Gruber ASA, Norway’s sole iron ore producer, finalized a contract with long-time partner HJH to manage operations at the forthcoming Stensundtjern open-pit mine. Set to begin production in the second half of 2025, the magnetite-rich site will follow the conclusion of operations at the Ørtfjell mine, ensuring a smooth transition and uninterrupted production.

CEO Gunnar Moe highlighted HJH’s proven efficiency and commitment to safety and environmental standards, which align with Rana Gruber’s values. HJH’s responsibilities will include blasting, waste removal, transport, and daily mining activities.

The Stensundtjern mine is projected to increase Rana Gruber’s magnetite output from 160,000 tons annually to 200,000 tons by 2026. Magnetite’s high-grade properties and demand in the chemical industry underscore its premium value. This contract reinforces Rana Gruber’s timeline and cost targets, supporting stable iron ore supply to European markets.
