POSCO Future M, a battery materials producer under POSCO, has started the production of nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) cathodes at its Pohang plant, three months ahead of schedule, due to customer requests.

On October 12, high-nickel materials with a nickel content of 88% were successfully produced.

The NCA cathode plant has an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. The production and sales were originally planned for 2025.

POSCO Future M aims to achieve product diversification by adding NCA materials to existing nickel, cobalt, manganese (NCM) and nickel, cobalt, manganese, aluminum (NCMA) production lines to meet customers' needs.

The company has a target to reach a total NCA production capacity of 248,500 tons by 2026.
