Ethiopian government to put bans on imported billet

It’s reported that Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development decided to put ban on imported billets in two week ago and it will assign a state-run enterprise to import the billet and supply them to the local rolling mills.

At present, eight steel rolling mills in Ethiopia imported billets from the overseas market.

Mr. Sufian Ahmed, the Minister of Finance told the representatives of the Building Materials Supply Enterprise that the ministry would soon prohibit the billet imports and the company will take the responsibility to import and distribute billet.

It’s known that Building Materials Supply Enterprise will hold a tenders in the coming few weeks to invite the international companies to supply to billet for Ethiopia.

In the background, Ethiopian monthly consumption of billet is around 25,000 tons. Building Materials Supply Enterprise will ask bidders supply 75,000 tons of billets for three months usages.
