US import penetration for all stainless steel products rises
|
According to statistics released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA), the US import penetration for almost all the stainless steel products increased in the first five months of this year.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s imports of stainless steel plates were at 97,701 short tons, soaring by 42%; that of stainless steel wires was at 19,965 short tons, up by 0.2%; that of stainless steel bar was at 66,000 tons, rising by 8.9%; that of stainless steel rod was at 13,538 tons, increasing by 5.1% and that of stainless steel sheet and narrow strip was at 169,375 tons, falling by 2.3%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the given period of time, the country’s import penetration for stainless steel plates was at 50.7%, up by 4.2 percentage points; that for stainless steel wire was at 80%, rising by 2.7 percentage points; that for stainless steel bar was at 56.7%, increasing by 3.6 percentage points and that for stainless steel rod was at 43.8%, jumping by 6.2% percentage points.
