Mexican Economy Ministry set 3% tariff over 268 steel products from August

It is reported that Mexican’s Economy Ministry reestablished 3% tariff over 268 steel products imported from WTO member countries from August 1st.
Mexican federal government set the low tariff on steel products as part of its unilateral liberalization program which would reduce the average tariff from 10.4% in 2008 to 4.3% in 2013.
Mexican Iron and Steel Institute (Canacero) and National Steel Industry Syndicate objected such new rule and asked for court’s judgment. The court sent the sentence to Economy Ministry in 29 of June asks for reestablish such tariff.
However, the syndicate questions that the Economy Ministry is just obey partially court’s order since it cited the tariff range should be from 3% to 7 %.
The impacted steel products including rolled products, wire rod, alloy steel, bars, profiles, wire, tubes, fittings and cables.
