Italy’s steel exports jump by 9.8% in first five months of 2012

According to statistics released by Federacciai, Italy’s steel exports totaled 8.2 million tons in the first five months of 2012, surging by 9.8% year on year.
In the first five months of this year, the steel exports to the EU countries totaled 5.7 million tons, increasing by 3.5%; that to countries outside the EU-27 countries was at 2.5 million tons, surging by 27.4%.
In the given period of time, the country’s steel imports totaled 6.2 million tons, falling by 26.3% in comparison of that in the same period of a year earlier.
The imports from within the EU decreased by 8.1% to 3.6 million tons and that form the non-EU counties fell by 42% to 2.6 million tons.
