Japan’s H1 steel product imports reduce by 1.9% y-o-y

According to statistics released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan imported 3.931 million tons of steel products in the first half of this year, falling by 1.9% year on year.
Among them, 2.202 million tons were general steel products, up by 3.2% and 223,000 tons were specialty steel products, rising by 16.2%, both compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
For the imports of general steel products, 257,000 tons were steel plates, rising by 28.7%; 157,000 tons were steel wire, falling by 7.4%; 842,000 tons were hot rolled coils, reducing by 4.3%; 439,000 tons were cold rolled steel plates and coils, rising by 6.5%; 285,000 tons were galvanized steel plates, jumping by 22.7%; 24,000 tons were electrical steel sheets, increasing by 33.3% and 76,000 tons were steel pipes, soaring by 23.7%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
