Chinese steel industry’s H1 sales profits slump by 95.81% y-o-y

China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) said on Tuesday that its member steel enterprises realized sales profits of RMB2.385 billion in the first half of 2012, slumping by 95.81% in comparison of that in the same period of a year earlier.
CISA owns 74 members and it said that its members’ sales margin decreased to 0.13% in the first half of this year, in comparison of 3.06% in the same period of a year ago.
The Chinese steel industry has faced fierce difficulty since this year, including weak demand and higher steelmaking costs, making them suffer from the loss of RMB1 billion in the first quarter of this year.
