Brazilian Gerdau waits for preliminary license for heavy plate mill

Brazilian steel giant Gerdau is waiting for the preliminary license to start the installation of the second stage of its heavy plate mill in Minas Gerais state.
The state environmental policy council (Copam) will evaluate the mil on July 30th. The license for the second stage is for the output of 500,000 tons per year.
In the first stage, Gerdau expected to have 1 million tons of plates annual by the end of the year. The investment is at around US$875 million.
