US’s scrap exports rise by 7.6% m-o-m in May
|
According to statistics, the US exported 2.038 million tons of scraps in May, decreasing by 21.2% year on year while rising by 7.6% from a month earlier.
In May, Turkey was the largest destination of the US scraps with 605,000 tons, down by 8.3%; South Korea was the second largest one with 318,000 tons, falling by 6.6%; Taiwan was the third largest one with 281,000 tons, decreasing by 12.9% and China was the fourth largest one with 152,000 tons, declining by 58.2%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s scrap exports totaled 9.37 million tons, down by 5.3% in comparison of that in the same period of a year ago.
In the given period of time, 2.754 million tons were exported to Turkey, rising by 41.7%, 1.438 million tons were to South Korea, down by 3.2%; 1.412 million tons were to Taiwan, rising by 5.5%; 1.002 million tons were to China, reducing by 42.7%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.
It’s estimated that the country’s scrap exports would be at 22.49 million tons in 2012.
