Japan’s shipments of CR strips and sheets rise by 9% m-o-m in May

According to statistics released by the Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF), the country’s shipments of cold rolled (CR) strips and sheets totaled 564,811 tons in May, rising by 9% from a month earlier and increasing by 14% year on year.
Among them, 48% were dispatched to domestic market and the remaining 52% were exported to overseas markets.
In May, the country’s inventory of CR strips and sheets totaled 660,337 tons, falling by 2% month on month and decreasing by 14% year on year. Among them, 70% were hold by steelmakers and 30% were taken by traders.
In the given period of time, the domestic prices of CR strips and sheets were at ¥82,000/ton, declining by ¥5,000/ton from a month earlier.
The country’s production of CR strips and sheets amounted 552,192 tons in May, rising by 9% from a month ago and increasing by 3% year on year.
