Japan’s scrap imports decline by 67% y-o-y in May

According to statistics, Japan imported 29,400 tons of scraps in May, falling by 66.7% year on year while surging by 11.6% from a month earlier.
In May, Taiwan was the largest scrap exporter to Japan with 9,600 tons, increasing by 4.7%; South Korea was the second largest one with 6,600 tons, falling by 60.3%; Thailand was the third largest one with 5,800 tons, rising by 24.7% and the US was the fourth largest one with 4,200 tons, declining by 90.2%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the first five months of this year, Japan’s scrap imports totaled 118,000 tons, reducing by 60.4% year on year.
Among them, 28,700 tons were from South Korea, decreasing by 60.1%; 26,400 tons were from Taiwan, falling by 32.7%; 26,200 tons were from Thailand, rising by 32.6%; 23,600 tons were from the US, dropping by 76.3%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
