Trinidad & Tobago concerned about the cheap substandard steel imports from overseas
|
As stated in a news report, the local Steel Workers' Union in Trinidad & Tobago is concerning about that Trinidad & Tobago might become the dumping ground for cheap and substandard specifications of steel products.
100 jobs at Central Trinidad Steel Limited were in jeopardy because Trinidad & Tobago had become a dumping ground for steel.
Currently, there is a problem with substandard lower grades of steel products importing into Trinidad & Tobago, which is said to lead to temporary closure of Centrin, effective June 18th 2012 and the laying off of close to 100 permanent and casual workers for one month, initially.
However, the government can’t intervene in the importation of products coming into the country.
