|
According to Alcoa, the world's third largest producer of aluminum, the demand for aluminum in the auto industry is expected to more than double by the year of 2025 as the automakers are exploring lightweight alternatives to steel to avoid heavy steel to satisfy tightening fuel efficiency regulations.
The aluminum consumption is expected to increase to 24.8 million tons in 2025 from 11.5 million tons in 2011.
The averaged usage of aluminum for a car, according to Alcoa, will be approximately 250 kilogram of aluminum compared to the 155 kilogram in today’s car.
