EU steel import licenses drop by 13% in May
|
According to data from European Commission, steel import license applications in May to European Union (EU) dropped by 13% from April to 1.68 million tons. Within those applications, applications from South Korea rose by the most, as well as from the US, Belarus, Egypt, Taiwan and South Africa.
Chinese total application dropped about 307,000 tons in May from 317,000 tons in April. However, China still accounted for 60% of total EU import applications. The applications for rolled steel dropped by 22% while seamless tubes and pipes increased by 59%.
Russia was the biggest single source of HRC and CR to EU in May, but quantity dropped as well. Ukraine’s applications dropped the most about 32%.
