Japan’s Q1 crude stainless steel output down by 8.8% y-o-y

According to statistics, Japan’s production of crude stainless steel totaled 703,500 tons in the first quarter of this year, falling by 8.8% in comparison of 771,300 tons in the same period of a year earlier.
In the given period of time, the country’s output of crude special steel totaled 6.282 million tons, up slightly by 1.1% from 6.216 million tons in the same period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, Japan’s consumption of high carbon ferrochrome decreased by 7.7% year on year to 164,812 tons in the first quarter of this year, showing the reduction in stainless steel production. However, the country’s consumption of low carbon ferrochrome rose by 4.4% to 11,723 tons.
