Turkey’s April scrap imports surge by 41% y-o-y

According to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country imported 2.06 million tons of scrap in April, rising by 22.66% from a month earlier and soaring substantially by 41.3% year on year.
Meanwhile, the average import prices of scrap were at US$445/ton, decreasing by US$5/ton from the previous month.
In April, the US was the largest scrap exporter to Turkey with 644,000 tons, surging by 2.1 times; the UK was the second largest one with 183,000 tons, increasing by 38.9%; Belgium was the third largest one with 176,000 tons, jumping by 57.2%; Romania was the fourth largest one with 170,000 tons, down by 0.2%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the first four months of this year, Turkey’s scrap imports amounted to 7.4 million tons, increasing by 18.75% year on year.
