Eurofer urges EU to safeguard scrap imports
|
Eurofer, the European steel industry association has requested the EU Commission to monitor and act against non-EU countries that restrict exports of scraps because they think such barriers are unfair.
Axel Eggert, Eurofer’s representative told to press that the association had sent a letter to Commission to urge the monitor of those countries who are impose such barriers and then to implement some measures to against this.
Eggert did not mention who are those countries, but it is believed that about 30 countries have such restrictions, including Ukraine, Russia, Vietnam, Venezuela and Argentina.
Eggert said Eurofer represents 100% of steel production in EU, has not suggested any specific measures and has not asked for restrictions of scrap exports from EU.
But there are indeed discussion and calls within the EU to keep the EU’s raw materials and scrap metal for its own use.
