Malaysia’s February scrap imports surge by 79.3% y-o-y

According to statistics, Malaysia imported 102,000 tons of scraps in February, soaring by 79.3% year on year.
Among them, 33,000 tons were from Singapore, surging by 59.7%; 16,000 tons were from the US, soaring substantially by 3,120.6%, both compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the first two months of this year, Malaysia’s scrap imports totaled 276,000 tons, jumping significantly by 95.5% year on year.
It’s estimated that Malaysia’s scrap imports in the whole 2012 would reach 1.65 million tons.
