New Guines’ Ramu mine to make first nickel-cobalt shipment to China
|
It is reported that the Ramu mine in Papua New Guines is going to make the first nickel-cobalt shipment to China within the next two months.
The Ramu mine started ore treatment in March and the ramp-up of production is progressing well.
It is expected that the Ramu will achieve 31,000 tons of nickel and 3,000 tons of cobalt within 12-18 months. Most of the production is planned to ship to China.
Although China is under the weak demand on nickel, it is seen the long-term positive effect on nickel prices.
In the background, the Ramu project is majority owned by Chinese metals giants China Metallurgical Group Corp., Jinchuan Goup Ltd., Jilin Jien Nickel Industrial Ltd, and Jiuquan Iron & Steel (Group) Ltd.
