Taiwanese section steel prices expected to rise on higher oil and electricity charges

Reportedly, the prices of section steel are expected to rise in Taiwanese steel market in response to higher oil and electricity charges.
It’s said that the Taiwanese government would start to increase the electricity charges for industry by 30%~60% averagely from the end of May.
As a result, it would make electric furnace (EF) mills to face huge input costs, causing EF mills transfer the input costs to its product prices.
At present, the Taiwanese major steel mills’ list prices of H section steel are at NT$25,500~NT$27,000/ton averagely, close to the highest level; however, steelmakers still plan to raise the prices further.
For the small-size section steel, the current list prices are at NT$22,600~NT$22,800/ton and the actual selling prices are at NT$21,800~NT$22,000/ton. It’s learned that the steelmakers plan to raise the prices further by NT$200~NT$300/ton.
