BHP Billiton's Bowen Basin Coal mines facing impact of force majeure
|
It reported that the production of Australian mining giant BHP Billiton has adversely been affected by the force majeure of prolonged union strikes and heavy rain at its coal mines in Bowen Basin, Queensland, Australia.
The coal mines are capable of producing one million tons of coking coal per week, which is 20% of world production.
The strikes and heavy rains are estimated to result loss of 2 million to 3 million tons of production and lead to price increase in metallurgical coal this year.
