Rio Tinto further controls coastal pipeline project in Western Australia
|
It is reported that Australian mining giant Rio Tinto will inject up to US$ 310 million into an Australian coastal water supply project involving the construction of a new borefield and pipeline system to help supply the iron ore operations in Pilbara region of Western Australia with annual production capacity of the mine up to 333 million tons.
According to the agreement signed with Government of Western Australia, Rio Tinto will give away its existing priority entitlements to the Millstream water supply.
Nevertheless, the government has agreed to amendments to secondary processing obligations.
The point is this investment is set for completion by mid-2013 and Rio Tinto will build own and operate the new borefield.
