Aperam sees nickel average at US$24,000~US$25,000/ton in 2012
|
Stainless steel maker Aperam expects the average nickel prices would be above US$20,000/ton by the end of the year and it will average at between US$24,000~US$25,000/ton next year. Reuters reported.
According to Carl Landuydt, the head of Aperam's global purchasing, the stainless steel demand is very low at the moment. Normally, the Q4 will have the higher demand which could support the prices to rise slightly.
He said that the nickel prices in next year would depend on the fact if the new nickel projects become operational in a good way, as delays would mean increased use of nickel pig iron (NPI).
Meanwhile, the nickel prices in three months delivery at LME edged up 2.3% to US$21,145/ton by 0722 GMT on Wednesday, up from a low of US$20,200 touched on August 9th.
It’s known that the nickel prices have dropped more than US$8,000/ton from the year's peak of US$29,425 hit on February 21st.
