Mexico’s steel export volume to fall by 21% in 2009

According to Mexico Steel &Iron Industries Association, Mexico’s steel export volume in 2009 is expected to reduce by 21 percent to 13.6 million tons compared with the same period of last year due to falling demand in US market.
Also, P.S. Venkataramanann, the CEO of ArcelorMittal Mexico and chairman of Mexico Steel &Iron Industries Association, indicated that Mexico is affected mostly by the decreasing foreign trade and industry output in America.
However, it is expected that the steel consumption will be increased by 14.5 percent to 21 million tons in 2010 as thegovernment announced to invest in some big energy projects which will require large quantities of steel materials.
