Smorgon Steel Recycling announce expansion plans
|
Smorgon Steel Recycling announced a US$24 million upgrade project at their Elizabeth river facility. The Australian steel recycler, a unit of Melbourne base Smorgon Steel Group, purchased the export and metal recycling facility in February. The growing global demand for scrap has prompted the expansion that will see the plant’s annual scrap capacity to over 150,000 tons. The facility currently has a capacity of 70, 000 tons. The company not only supplies Nucor and Chaparral Steel, but also exports its scrap products to overseas. The new expansion project that will see the installation of a new powerful shredder as well as other improvements is expected to be completed within a year. (May 3)
