Brazilian iron ore export earnings show rise in 2005

Brazilian earning from iron ore exports rose 55.34 percent in 2005. Earnings totaled US$7. 296 billion in 2005 compared to the US$4.758 billion in 2004. Exports to China were up greatly and earnings from exports to that country rose by 60 percent totaling US$1.784 billion. That accounted for 24.45 percent of total earnings for the year, rising by 12 percent. CVRD, the main iron ore exporter in Brazil, exported 39.249 million tons of iron ore to China during 2005, up 24.5 percent compared to 2004. (Jan. 12)
