IMH to be self-sufficient in coking coal supply by 2009
|
By 20009 Industrial Metallurgical Holding (IMH) will have enough coking coal for its own usage after three mines come on line. Currently, IMH produces 1.5 million tpy from its open-cast and underground mines in Russia’s Kemerovo region. After the new lines are finished, the annual capacity will be increased to between 4.5million and 5 million tons per year. The first new line will cost IMH $120 million on a greenfield underground site, which can produce 1.2million tpy of coking coal. This mine is expected to start operations at the end of 2006. The other two lines will each have a 1 million tpy capacity and is expected to start production in 2007 and 2008 respectively. For the current demand on the coking coal, IMH still has to buy from other manufactures in the domestic market. (Dec. 6)
