Steel giants pitch in to help rebuild devastated US Gulf coast
|
Mittal Steel USA and Steel Dynamics INC have announced plans to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Due to terrible destruction caused by the hurricane, Mittal Steel announced that they will “adopt” the town of Long Beach Mississippi. The company said the rebuilding of the severely hit beachfront town will be done in phases. Firstly they will make US$1 million available for the reconstruction and in the second phase Mittal will take part in the actual rebuilding. According to Louis Schorsch, Mittal USA CEO, “Mittal Steel USA wants to help rebuild this community, not just replace its structures, through direct and personal involvement.” The Fort Wayne, Indiana based Steel Dynamics Inc. has pledged to donate more than US$100, 000 to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Fund. The money was collected by the company and its employees. “Its very gratifying to see SDI employees stepping up to help other Americans in need,” said Keith Busse, president and CEO of SDI. (Oct. 12)
